Confessions Of A Small Town Librarian

Published October 29, 2013 by adamcewan

It has been eleven days since the release of the first novella in my “Confessions” series and while I plot out the next and hopefully even better one, here are some of my favorite reviews it has had since its launch. What are some things that you would like to see in the next one?

By Catherine:
“I don’t read much erotica. The reason is that I find the plots dull and lacking as the stories center solely on the sexuality. With Confessions of a Small Town Librarian, I have found that the genre has been redeemed. I was reeled in from the very first page and I couldn’t stop until I devoured the whole thing in one setting. Mrs. McEwan has brought life back to this genre with the depth of her characters Anna and Ben, the twists and turns within the story that keep the reader enthralled, and of course the steamy chemistry. The mystery of the connection between Anna, the journals, and Ben was quite enthralling, but you will get no spoilers from me. I can’t wait to read the next installment.”

By Jeannette:
“Okay so here is the thing this book is not your ordinary erotic story by no means!! First off you have Anna, the local librarian who is certainly not what you would expect to see at your library or everyone would be lining up to check out books from this gorgeous gal!! Second, Ben, who is not only beyond Handsome on so many levels, he is the perfect man for Anna. Honestly he is a dream guy for anyone one!! I want him!!!!
Okay so here is what makes this tale unique. The story is not only heartwarming it really make you feel for the characters emotional. It is just not about the heat it is about true love finding a home. There is more!! The story is surrounded by the Mysterious Journals that was tucked away full of dust and in a very fragile state when Anna had discover them in the Library! However what is written within these pages is what has Anna biting at the bit to dig deeper into the entries! Now you ask why? Well I can’t tell you but I will say this…
What would you do with damaging information that fell into your lap…?”

By Kim:
“Hot, Hot, Hot! This was a very intriguing and sexy story. Anna is the town librarian who finding some hidden journals about the towns history and residents. As she takes the journey to find out more about these people, she becomes involved with the very sexy Ben. After just a few moments together, they have a chemistry that will knock your socks off. I’m not going to give spoilers but hot and steamy read with some mystery behind the scenes, then this is your book. Good job A. McEwan!”

By Jacquie:
“I was gifted a copy from the author for an honest review.
18+ readers only please.
Have you ever checked out old books, newspaper articles, or journals kept in a library to see the history of how someone’s life was? This story will send you looking for answers to the past and seeking that connection to the possible present.
While working at a library, Anna finds a journal from the late 1800s and decides she wants to do some investigating to see if any of Madame Josephine’s ancestors are around. Being from a small town, Anna finds out more than she ever expected.
Out on the town one evening, finally ready to get back into the single life, Anna and Megan head for a night of pool. When the gorgeous and sexy Ben comes up behind Anna, there is no control with this librarian as she finds herself questioning where the comments are coming from that are slipping from her own lips. Could things be too good to be true for the two of them or is this a romance worth staying around for? What connection could Ben have with the journals? This is a great read from Ms. McEwan.”

By Ana:
“Wow, this book was amazing. I knew it was going to be good just from the cover. The cover just is just the beginning in what you will find when you start to read it. I started and couldn’t put it down.It is a book for 18+ but it was well written, it was so vividly detailed you can just see the action taking place. I loved the characters Anna and Megan how close they were as children to adults. Anna close to a divorce pending just her ex’s signature, I loved how she handle herself with him. And Her meeting Ben was no rebound guy, the way he was described wow.. I would love to be that Anna being my name is Ana just one N. But overall the pages just gets better. As she works in the small town Library Anna uncover secrets that can harm people in the town, she uncovers a personal diary of Josephine from the 1800’s. I would of love to read those dairies myself. Love secrets… so enough of the spoilers.. This Book is awesome it will have you smiling, laughing, and oh yeah hot too.. lol.. I can’t wait for the next part, I definitely recommend this book to 18+ readers it will have you reading it over and over again.. a sure keeper in your library of eBooks. I was given a free copy of this eBook for my honest review… and believe me you won’t regret getting this one. One of the best eBooks I have read so far among a few others.”

From Coco:
“Small town librarian, Anna, stumbles across some old journals that weave a tale of mystery and captivates her attention. She’s intrigued with the new history they paint for her town. Espionage, brothels, it’s enthralling.
Newly single and bound for a night on the town with her best friend, Megan, they start a game of billiards with an unexpected twist: Anna meets the gorgeous Ben and takes off to sew her wild oats.
She’s overcome with unfamiliar feelings and loses grip on her control. Ben is simply irresistible and becomes an easy distraction from the divorce she’s going through.
Steamy and laced with mystery. How does Ben connect to these journals? Is he her true love?
Great read from A. McEwan.”

Rue is planning her future and trying to navigate school and all other aspects of her life. Then her Mother falls ill. This sends Rue spiraling as she feels abandoned and without guidance. Attempting to make things better, Kai, Rue’s only sibling, invites her to a party that will change the course of her life forever.

She struggles to get a grip on reality as new friends try their best to earn her trust, but old enemies bring with them memories of a life she has all but forgotten.

Excerpt from Book 2 “Smoke and Mirrors”:

“What the hell are you doing here?”

“Saving your ass.” I said

“Yeah, looks like it.” Josh said sarcastically.

“Oh shut up, we have to figure out how to get off this thing.”

We slid a little and I squeezed my legs against his sides.

“Oh, this is sexy.” he said with a growl.

“Oh my God! We are going to die here if you don’t help.” I yelled at him.

“Okay, okay…give me your blade.” he said.

“What?”

“Give it to me.” He said as he lifted his hand. I placed it in his hand and he quickly sliced it across my palm.

“Ouch!” I said. He grinned at me as we slid a little more down the mirror.

“Let me drink your blood, I’m weak.” he said to me in a low tone.

I pressed my hand against his mouth and I felt his lips on my skin. The sudden hum in my body was an unneeded distraction. I tightened my legs as I straddled him and he groaned. He pulled my hand away from his mouth, smiling up at me.

“Could you not do that?” he said.

“Do what?” I asked him.

“Press down on me like that.”

“I can’t help it!” I cried out as I tightly wrapped my arms around his neck , we started to slide down further and further.

He grunted as he tried his best to push himself back up with me on top of him.

“This is not the way I wanted our first time to be.” he said with a laugh.

“Oh my God, shut up!” I yelled as he did nothing but aggravate me as usual.

He moaned against my mouth and I traced his lips with my tongue and parted his lips.  I kissed him so deeply and so full of desire, I didn’t even notice I had drew one leg up on the couch so his hand could keep making my body purr.  I just wanted him everywhere.” ©

Interview with Eren from The Red Sun Rises…

Published August 31, 2013 by adamcewan

Cover Red Sun Rises

I’m very happy to host my pub sister, Victoria Kinnaird on her blog hop for her novel “The Red Sun Rises.”  Several people wanted to ask the character, Eren a few questions and we decided to throw him into the hot seat!  While this is a YA book, it gives us back the real vampires and isn’t just another vampire novel.

“Eren Anderson is a freak among freaks. At 17 years old, he doesn’t fit in with his peers in the tiny town of All Hallows and despite being born into it, he most certainly doesn’t fit in among The Order of Our Mother, the secret nature worshipping society that has harnessed the ability cast spells and believes vampires are not only real, but their deadliest enemies. Eren is turned into a vampire after an attack by the local coven master, but that is the least of his worries…”

Here are the questions you wanted to ask Eren.  What a fun interview this was for me!

What is your biggest fear of being a vampire in a world of humans?

Pitchforks and torches.  On a serious note, I’m scared of hurting someone, mostly.

What are some disadvantages of being a vampire…besides the obvious ones?

Oh, you mean beside staying young and beautiful and healthy forever? I’m still fairly new to the fang gang, so I haven’t really experienced anything in terms of disadvantages. I think it’ll get lonely, later. You know, when all my friends and family are dead. Oh, and I’ll never be able to buy a drink without getting asked for ID. That’s going to suck. Pun intended.

What’s the hardest part of being a vampire, the thirst or watching the world move, change, and die around you?

I think this is one of those questions that’s better answered a couple of decades down the line. Right now I’m just enjoying being able to run really fast without losing my breath. I miss pizza though, so it’s not without its hardships…

What do you think about when you are with friends and/or family?

“Geez dad, where the hell did you get that shirt?” “Beige is not a valid colour.” “One day you’re going to be dead and I’m not and I don’t know how I’m going to handle that. Ooh, coffee.”

What is your favourite colour?

Black. It’s the colour of my soul / heart / majority of my wardrobe.

What do you think about the change in fashion as it evolves?

As long as skinny jeans stay fashionable, I’m happy. It’s a bit hard, thinking about the evolution in fashion, when you have a boyfriend who has more frock coats than denim jackets. He’s the fashionista, I’m just glad when my clothes don’t smell.

What type of music do you like listening to?

That depends. Everything on the alternative side of the line is usually a sure fire winner with me, but I’ve been known to stray into pop music occasionally. Rock music owns my soul, though.

What’s your favourite thing to hate?

Perky people. It’s like, what the fuck? Take a break from the constant sunshine, will ya? It hurts my eyes.

What drives you when you feel the odds against you?

I don’t like being told what to do, whether that’s a person or a situation trying to make me behave a certain way. The desire to be my own person and live my own life pushes me more than anything. Oh, and I just love pissing people off.

Are you a cat or a dog person?

Neither. Animals don’t like me, even before I got fangs.

If you were on a deserted island what would be the three things you would take with you?

Corbijn, Andy and a lifeboat.

Do you like cake?

I used to! I can’t digest food anymore, not really. But yes, I like cake. BUT I CAN NEVER HAVE IT. Wait, I change my answer, that’s the hardest part about being a vampire. The lack of cake.

What’s your favourite word?

Fuck.

There you go, Eren in a nutshell…

Author Spotlight – V. J. Chisholm

Published August 20, 2013 by adamcewan

I am so happy to have my pub sis, V.J. on my blog today.  She is pretty awesome and well “Magick Weaved On A Samhain Eve” is just my cup of tea or coffee as some might say over here.  For those who love romance and love magick, go pick up a copy for yourself, you will not be disappointed! ~Ada

Hi everyone, well I’m V.J. Chisholm indie author from bonnie wee Scotland.

I have to thank Ada for having on her blog today.

I’ve been a scribbler all my life and my passion for writing was most defiantly passed onto me by my nana (who could always make up the most amazing stories on the spot).

Magick Weaved on a Samhain Eve is my debut novella, this was my first shot at writing anything along the sizzling line so it took a while before me & my muse to get it together on this one and come up with the idea of Alexia with her wicked witchy ways. Lance took a bit more time to come to life. Despite knowing right away how I wanted him to be, I was lack any idea of what to make him look like. Until a friend of mine was making us gals laugh (and there was a fair amount of drooling too, lol) one day over a certain picture she had posted on her blog of a lovely tasty male treat.

From that photo the looks and movements of Lance were born and so was Magick Weaved on Samhain Eve

Magick weaved on a Samhain eve is about Alexia who is a lively, single, sassy and sexy coven witch yet she finds herself and her sex life (or lack of it) the hot topic of her fellow coven sisters after one of the coven’s full moon meetings. Add to the mix the discovery of an old spell and Alexia’s life starts to change very quickly as a spirit named Lance appears. Combine the heat of the full moon and a hint of destiny, life will never be the same again for Alexia.

I love the team Alexia and Lance make when they clash and get together – so much so I’m currently working on the follow up to Magick Weaved

I’ve been very lucky with this book as it just got voted to #1 on Goodreads for best short romance fiction and has been climbing in the Amazon.com paid kindle bestseller in the top 100 for drama British and Irish

Here a little teaser for you all from Magick Weaved on a Samhain Eve;

She didn’t need to open her eyes to know that the spell had worked, as the air within the room had taken on an amazing tingling electric feeling. If that was not enough of a clue for her know that she was no longer in the room, the sudden appearance of a breath touching the back of her neck, and the feeling of a hand running over her bare shoulder sweeping her hair over to one side sure as hell did the trick.

Alexia felt like she had been burned by the touch. (There was no longer any doubt in her mind as to whether she would be able to feel her lover’s touch.) The lick and strength of heat the simple touch caused within her body shocked her so much that she would have jumped right off the bed had it not been for the arm that slipped like a snake around her waist, pinning her effectively against a well-defined and toned chest. She pushed back a little, and rubbed herself against it, reacting out of nothing more than pure instinct.

“Stop that now, Alexia, or this first round will before over far too quickly!” a deep male voice growled and purred into her ear.

There was more than a hint of an accent in his lusty voice. It was as sexy as hell, but there were not enough of the little grey cells in Alexia’s head that were still working to work out where it was from. Goddess, what was up with her? She never melted from the barest of touches, and a few whispered words like this. This was an all consuming rush and need, and not normal for Alexia by any means. Hellfire! She didn’t even know this guy’s name yet. She was not allowed to dwell on that small fact for long.

Here’s an excerpt from the book, ‘The Old Star’

He heard the door to the room open and spun around to see Cathy walk in. She was hesitant. Owen strode to her so pleased to see her he couldn’t stop a huge smile forming on his face. “Cathy, I hoped you’d drop in before leaving. How did it go with the locksmith, all fixed?” He stopped close to her and looked into her eyes. ‘She is very pretty. I’d like to get a kiss from her today.’
“Curiously the locksmith told me there is nothing wrong and the lock is new. He thinks that I haven’t been locking it properly, but I know I have.” She frowned slightly.
Owen felt like leaning in and kissing the frown away, or at least smoothing it away with his thumb as he held her face. He smiled. “What about Alfred Parr has he had trouble with it?” Owen was just interested in keeping Cathy talking and close, but he had sparked something in her mind because he saw her widen her eyes.
“Hey that’s true. When I first came here, I closed the door behind me after finding it ajar. It locked of course and stayed locked because Alfred used a key to get in and find me already here. That was the same today too…weird the door was locked okay when the locksmith arrived…”
Owen watched her consider this, but wanted to establish something between them to make her want to see him the next day. Ordinarily he’d ask a girl out but he couldn’t do that could he? He launched into flirting.
“You have such lovely eyes, Cathy. I hope that’s okay to say, just that when you frowned I felt like smoothing it away.” He gave her a look laden with promise. It was a practiced look.
Cathy gazed at him. He took a deep breath and slowly put out his hand to hold her face and smoothed the place a frown had been.
“I guess you have someone in your life waiting for you to get home. You wouldn’t want to stay a while and talk to me about your plans for the place.” He kept his voice low and looked at her lips. It was no hardship. He felt an overwhelming urge to kiss her. He bent his head to be even closer to her as she stayed there stilled under his hand and his gaze.
‘She has to be attracted to me. She has to be, or she’d have shaken off my touch and be backing away.’
“I don’t have anyone, special that is. I’d like to stay a while.”
Owen moved so slowly he felt as if he had entered some dream state, but he reached her lips with his, and holding her face gently, he kissed her. Her lips were soft and she kissed him back. It felt so good he couldn’t pull away as he intended.

The Old Star

Author Spotlight – Kim McNiel

Published August 12, 2013 by adamcewan

I’m proud to spotlight my Hot Ink Press pub sister, Kim McNiel.  Her book, “Caleb” has been heating up the charts and I have to admit, I loved that it was written in “his” point of view, no matter how bad I just wanted to beat the shit out of him. I really enjoyed that it MADE me want to do that to him.  Caleb is one bad, bad boy that any girl would love to hate.

Caleb loves the ladies and can’t keep his ego in his pants. With a new set of legs to wrap around him every two nights, he never thinks about what he’d do if Sarah caught him – until she does.
The repercussions are cataclysmic, giving him a second chance at life. Who is Caleb really? The ego or the man he professes to be? This playa plays to win.

Caleb
Hot cover isn’t it? Check out this excerpt!
Stopping at the florist on the way home, I pull in and pick up a dozen pink roses for Sarah. Yes, sucking ass big time.
Hey, if it works…then I’ll be all good. When I’m good, everyone is good. God forbid I get red roses, she’d want to run off to the fucking chapel. That isn’t going to happen to me, not in this lifetime anyways. I stroll in the house.
“I’m home babe,” I yell out, dropping the folder on the table.
“Upstairs,” Sarah yells back. I know this tone.
Skipping two steps at a time, I follow the circular staircase. I dodge the hanging chandelier with my head. Something else she had to have, forgetting I am well over six fucking feet tall.
“Hi darling, these are for you,” I hand her the flowers.
“Why? Because you slammed the phone down in my ear earlier?”
And…here we go! She’s such a bitchacoholic.

Author Spotlight – Zoe Adams

Author Zoe Adams

Name three interesting facts about yourself:

1. I idolise the film Labyrinth (1986). I’ve collected numerous amounts of merchandising over the years. Things range from figurines to books to numerous copies of the film. The most expensive piece was the novelisation of the film and was around £40 online. It’s still in the plastic wrapper on my bookshelf.

2. I met Wil Francis in the summer of 2010. He’s a musician and fronts Aiden and William Control. I met him before and after the gig with a friend before staying overnight at a hotel. When we went downstairs the next morning, he was sat having breakfast! I was so startled, but on the plus side, it meant having breakfast with my idol!

3. My name is Greek for “life”. Since discovering this as a child, I became fascinated with mythology and legends. I’ve travelled to various islands on holiday, taking in all the historic aspects. This fascination led me to write my first full novel based upon the Greek nymphs for university.

What made you want to be a writer?

Since I was a child, I always loved books and when it came to writing short stories for school, that spurned it further. I remember writing about a superhero rabbit, who lived in an old aircraft hangar with a talking potato… Yeah I was a weird kid.

I decided to become a professional writer when I started a relationship, with my partner. We watched a lot of anime, namely Bleach, which focused on shinigami’s (Death God’s in Japan). I started thinking about the non-canon characters and putting them into ridiculous situations and having love affairs. He spurned my desire to write – to give them as gifts to him.

His passion and drive, along with mine led me to apply for a BA (Hons) Degree in Professional Writing, where I learnt how to harness my own imagination. Since then, I have had success, and my partner has continued to hold onto me and keep me upright throughout.

What motivates you to write?

Once I start a project, I push myself to write it all, and then of course, edit it. Music is a big motivation and when I’m stuck on a chapter, I’ll search for a song that fits the chapter. Those lyrics propel me through and motivates me to have another chapter to write, or another book.

Family is a big motivation too. They’re all asking about my working so they motivate me to keep on writing and make them proud of me.

Do you have a particular writing process?

When it comes to my writing, I don’t set myself a specific time slot. However, I set myself word limits, almost like a deadline. If this is a chapter or a scene, I will try to write at least 1,000 words a day. If I can reach over this mark, it has been time well spent, even if I don’t essentially know where it will eventually take me.

How do you manage the deadly problem that is writers block?

I hate writers block, especially if I’m working on a specific project. I felt lucky that I barely ever got it whilst at university. Since finishing my degree, it seems that the blocks are back with a vengeance.

When I’m stuck, more ideas usually flow, so I jot those down, and reading other books helps too, whether it’s in the genre I write or not.

What is a piece of writing advice that you will always remember?

Three years at university gave me stacks of writing advice, but one that stands out is not from the tutors, even though they helped me become the person I am today.

J. K. Rowling said, “Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.” Not only can that be true for writing and getting your work published, but it can also be used in reality.

What is the most influential book you have ever read, and why do you think so?

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, hands down. It was such a beautiful novel, so rich in detail, whilst still retaining a wonderful story. It really changed my opinion on historical novels. While it’s nothing something I usually write, I love it.

Have you ever derived any inspiration from your home or from anywhere you have visited?

Inspiration has come from my hometown. I take its various features and meld them into a new place, all of my own.

I often take inspiration from other locations. When I visited Kos, Greece, for a holiday, I decided to write about Greek nymphs. This was my Final Major Project at university.

Your first major publication is Best Served Chilled. Have you had any publications prior to this?

Pawprints on a Heart was the first short story that was published, and it was through Crowded Quarantine Publications. They also published my Grindhouse short, Darkest Dreams.

MWiDP published my erotic short, Ten Years Later.

Crushing Hearts and Black Butterfly published two of my short stories in the Dark Light series: I Believe in Mary Worth and Fallen Angel.

Vamptasy Publishing also recently published Heaven’s Calling in Broken Mirrors, Fractured Minds.

What is Best Served Chilled about? It certainly sounds interesting!

What would you give to make it stop?”

Life hasn’t been easy for Hiraku Michiyo. Struggling with the misery that dwells in her past and her present, she’s spending more time with a wine glass than real friends. One night, she meets the charismatic, Shoichi. Intrigued and a little frightened, she invites him home.

Yet little does she realise that the real horrors are just beginning. And escape is certainly not at the bottom of any bottle.

What drove you to write about the paranormal?

I’ve always been interested in the paranormal, ever since reading the Harry Potter series as a kid. I still love those books with a passion. My mum would always pick up paranormal, fantasy and horror books from the library for me. A big influence on how and what I write was the third Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter book, Circus of the Damned by Laurell K. Hamilton. I was hooked on this badass female protagonist, who hunted vampires and raised zombies. It was a sexy read, especially this sort of forbidden romance with werewolves and vampires.

The paranormal is a genre that, to me, is sexy, powerful and masterful. The genres takes everything that we want to be deep down, especially if we are too scared or ashamed to actually do something about it. The creatures we see and experience can fight for anything and take what they want without giving a damn. We can broadcast our own views and thoughts into these creatures of horror. We can be terrifying, sexy, alluring – everything we aren’t able to be in reality.

What does the future hold for you as a writer?

I’m currently working on the sequel to Best Served Chilled. It’s so far entitled Best Consumed Within, and then I’ll be working on the last book in the trilogy. Hiraku’s story will be over…

After that, there are hundreds of projects I want to work on, and as long as those ideas keep flowing, I will keep on writing.
